چکیده

A quantitative theory of the middle-ear acoustics i developed and expressed interms of an electric analog. The analog network is based on the functional anatomy of the middle ear. The numerical values of its elements are derived from impedance measurements on normal and pathological ears and from anatomical data. It is shown that the input impedance of the analog agrees within the experimental error with the acoustic impedance at the eardrum, and that changes in analog parameters corresponding to known anatomical changes produce the same effect on its impedance characteristics a measured at the eardrum.

News about Chronic Otitis Serosis of Middle Ear (Otitis Media)

Serios otitis media is one of those ear Troubles that has enjoyed a very extensive research two decaides.  I ts recognition in medical literature goes b,ick tc eighteenth century. Since then there has been rather little progress in this field. The discovery of antibiotcs and thence lessening of in fecticus ear diseases, attention has been paid to preserve the function of ear, and naturally...

Simultaneous measurement of middle-ear input impedance and forward/reverse transmission in cat.

Reported here is a technique for measuring forward and reverse middle-ear transmission that exploits distortion-product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs) to drive the middle ear "in reverse" without opening the inner ear. The technique allows measurement of DPOAEs, middle-ear input impedance, and forward and reverse middle-ear transfer functions in the same animal. Intermodulation distortion in th...

An in situ calibration for hearing thresholds.

Quantifying how the sound delivered to the ear canal relates to hearing threshold has historically relied on acoustic calibration in physical assemblies with an input impedance intended to match the human ear (e.g., a Zwislocki coupler). The variation in the input impedance of the human ear makes such a method of calibration questionable. It is preferable to calibrate the acoustic signal in eac...

Middle Ear Pressure Gain and Cochlear Input Impedance in the Chinchilla

Measurements of middle ear conducted sound pressure in the cochlear vestibule PV have been performed in only a few individuals from a few mammalian species. Simultaneous measurements of sound-induced stapes velocity VS are even more rare. We report simultaneous measurements of VS and PV in chinchillas. The VS measurements were performed using single-beam laser-Doppler vibrometry; PV was measure...

A Theory of Cochlear Input Impedance and Middle Ear Parameter Estimation

A THEORY OF COCHLEAR INPUT IMPEDANCE AND MIDDLE EAR PARAMETER ESTIMATION by SUNIL PURIA Advisers: Professor Nenad M. Marinovic and Dr. Jont B. Allen In this thesis it is hypothesized that the geometry of the cat cochlea has evolved to maximize sound transmission from the eardrum to the cochlea. This hypothesis is shown to be tenable by modeling the cochlear input impedance and the middle-ear. I...
